Importing Machinery from China: A Buyer's Checklist

Before ordering, confirm the machine can be legally imported and registered in your country. Ask which emission standard is available (EPA, Euro 5, local tiers) and request the relevant documentation — CE declaration of conformity, engine certificates and any market-specific approvals.

A reliable supplier will send these documents before payment, not after. If a supplier cannot explain compliance, that is a red flag.

Common terms for machinery imports are T/T, L/C at sight, and for smaller orders PayPal or credit card with a deposit. A typical structure is a deposit to begin production and the balance before shipping, secured by photos or video of the finished machine.

For larger fleets, letter of credit provides both parties protection. Confirm which incoterm (FOB, CIF, DDP) you prefer and what is included in the price.

Standard machinery is often dispatched within 3–4 weeks. Shipping takes 1–6 weeks depending on destination. Your supplier should provide the packing list, commercial invoice, bill of lading and any certificates needed by your customs broker.

Ask about RORO versus container shipping for tracked machines, and whether the machine will be prepared for sea transport (drained fluids, secured).

The best import price is worthless if you cannot get parts. Confirm spare parts availability, delivery times and remote technical support before you buy. Ask whether a technician can help troubleshoot via video call.
